Original show notes from this episode:

Once again, Chrome Skin Jesus has vacated his humble abode in Texas to go and catch KMFDM/Angelspit live and to spend some necessary quality time with his family. In his absence, the much requested Rosenrot has stepped in to provide another great show of aggressive industrial rock and metal, complete with all of the heaviness and cutting edge awareness that one expects when a show originates from the United Kingdom.

Sit back and enjoy this concise set of crushing tracks. It’s short and to the point, but no less enjoyable. Those who have come to know and appreciate Rosenrot’s contributions to the Razor Blade Dance Floor know what to expect, and this show will be no exception!

The set list:

  • Blacksmoke – Fuck The Fucking Fuckers
  • The Bombs of Enduring Freedom – Bomb The Bank
  • B.O.S.C.H. – Soweltweit (Cannibal Brothers Mix)
  • Conteched – In Poor Company
  • Nailbomb – World of Shit
  • Fear Factory – Self Immolation (Vein Tap Mix)
  • Ministry – You Know What You Are
  • Godflesh – Defiled
  • Embrioma – Transitions In Trance
  • Delusion – 2witter
  • The Shizit – Break Out
  • Turmion Katilot – U.S.C.H.
  • The Kovenant – Cybertrash

Original show notes from this episode:

In my opinion, there are 3 distinct periods of industrial rock/metal. First came the INTRODUCTORY ERA where the world was turned on it’s head and forced to take notice of the vicious and caustic sounds being produced by bands like Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and KMFDM.

The second period was the COLDWAVE ERA, where bands like Diatribe, Acumen Nation, Unit:187, Hate Dept., Society Burning and 16volt grabbed hold of the industrial rock flag and ran hard with it.

The final period would be the RESURGENCE ERA, the period of time that we are in now that began pretty much whenever you feel like it began, but for me started when I put together this podcast 3 years ago (okay, maybe it started earlier than that, but my ego needs to make ridculous claims like that!)

All 3 periods are covered in this episode. Instead of going through lengthy details about the bands like I usually do, I instead try to relate a personal aspect of each band as it pertains to my life.

I would really love to hear your personal stories and how they relate to these periods of industrial rock/metal. Visit the Razor Blade Dance Floor forums to express those stories.

Here is the playlist for this show:

  • Nine Inch Nails – Head Like A Hole [Pretty Hate Machine] (1989)
  • Ministry – Thieves [The Mind is a Terrible Thing To Taste] (1989)
  • Skinny Puppy – Worlock [Rabies] (1989)
  • KMFDM – Inane [XTORT] (1996)
  • Godflesh – Predominance [Pure] (1992)
  • Chemlab – Exile on Mainline [East Side Militia] (1996)
  • Sister Machine Gun – Influence [Influence] (2003)
  • 16 Volt – Keep Sleeping [Supercoolnothing] (1998)
  • Circle of Dust – Dissolved [Circle of Dust] (1995)
  • Hate Dept. – This Doggy Bites [Omnipresent] (1996)
  • Cyanotic – Pro-dissonance [Transhuman 2.0] (2007)
  • Left Spine Down – Welcome To The Future [Voltage 2.3: Remixed and Revisited] (2009)
  • Fanoe – Sweet Nothing [Down To Heaven] (2008)
  • Celldweller – Switchback [Celldweller] (2003)
  • Rabbit Junk – The Big Push [ReFrame] (2007)

Razor Blade Dance Floor Podcast: Episode 077

Archive release of episode 77 of Razor Blade Dance Floor.

Originally published on December 7, 2008

Original show notes from this episode:

After all of the spoon feeding that has been done of 2008 releases, Chrome Skin Jesus felt it was time to take a break and look back at what got him involved in industrial rock in the beginning.  All tracks featured came out before 1992, a decidedly more decadent time and much more raw era in the life of the illustrious DJ and the music scene in general.

Enjoy a healthy dose of classic tracks, and ones that should have been from the following artists:

  • Einstürzende Neubauten – Sand [Yu-Gung EP]
  • Pigface – Ten Ground and Down [Fook]
  • Godflesh – Slavestate [Slavestate]
  • Swans – Sex.God.Sex [Children of God]
  • My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult – Do You Fear For Your Child [I See Good Spirits, I See Bad Spirits]
  • KMFDM – Thumb Thumb [UAIOE]
  • Ministry – Never Believe [The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste]
  • Revolting Cocks – In The Neck [Beers, Steers and Queers]
  • Circle of Dust – Dissolved [Dissolved]
  • Contagion – We Believe [Contaminant PCB]
  • Front Line Assembly – Provision [Caustic Grip]
  • Treponem Pal – The Black Box [Treponem Pal]
  • Lard – They’re Coming To Take Me Away [The Last Temptation of Reid]

Chrome Skin Jesus has become indisposed at the moment, so in a pinch, good friend of the show Shaun a/k/a Rosenrot slid in behind the mic to deliver an impromptu show.  The result is a mixture of bottom heavy industrial metal and a healthy dose of experimentalism.  The resulting show is both moody and painfully satisfying!
